Vivek Ramaswamy ends his US Presidential bid, endorses Donald Trump as 'Best President of 21st Century'

The 2024 US Presidential Elections took an interesting turn as Vivek Ramaswamy, following a disappointing result in Iowa, officially declared his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. His spokesperson, quoted by AFP, revealed that despite the setback, Ramaswamy, at 38, pledged support to his rival, former President Donald Trump. Ramaswamy, who has previously hailed Trump as the "best president of the 21st century," urged Republican voters to embrace "fresh legs" and elevate the "America First Agenda" to new heights.

Drawing inspiration from Trump's political playbook, Ramaswamy adopted a similar strategy, presenting himself as a quick-witted populist who garnered attention with headline-grabbing antics and persistent jabs at opponents. Meanwhile, Donald Trump secured a decisive victory in the first 2024 Republican presidential contest in Iowa, reaffirming his dominance within the party despite ongoing legal challenges in his quest for a rematch against Democratic President Joe Biden, according to Reuters.

Expressing gratitude on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump exclaimed, "THANK YOU, I LOVE YOU ALL!!!" Ramaswamy, in acknowledging his unsuccessful campaign, announced the suspension of his presidential bid, conceding, "There is no path for me to be the next president." He went on to endorse Trump, recognizing the former president's victory and pledging full support in the upcoming presidential race.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis secured a second-place finish in the Iowa Republican caucus, with Edison Research projecting his lead over former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley in their competition to emerge as the primary alternative to Trump. With nearly 90% of the expected votes counted, Trump led with 50.9%, followed by DeSantis at 21.4% and Haley at 19.0%, according to Edison. While Trump aimed to solidify an air of inevitability around his campaign, it remained uncertain whether he would surpass the crucial 50% mark, a psychological threshold that could further undermine his rivals' arguments against his nomination, as reported by Reuters.

Both DeSantis and Haley aimed for a strong second-place finish to demonstrate to donors and supporters that their challenges to Trump remained viable. Trump, adopting an unconventional approach, skipped all five Republican debates and largely avoided the traditional county-by-county politics leading up to the Iowa vote.
